UCT Mountain and Ski Club Overview
The University of Cape Town Mountain & Ski Club (UCTMSC) is a vibrant community for students who share a passion for outdoor adventures. Whether you are an experienced climber, a passionate hiker, or a complete beginner wanting to experience the thrill of the mountains, our club offers a welcoming environment to explore and connect with nature.
Founded in 1933, we aim to promote outdoor activities and foster a love for the mountains. Our club organises regular trips, skill-building workshops, and social events to engage members and enhance their outdoor experience.
Membership
Joining the UCT Mountain and Ski Club is easy!
- To become a member, sign-up on PeopleSoft using code "HIL".
- Membership is open to all UCT students, and we welcome newcomers to our community.
- We are one of the cheapest sports clubs with an Annual Membership Fee of R280 for 2026!
As a member, you will have access to:
- More than 100 hiking, climbing, trail running, conservation, educational and social events throughout the year
- Outdoor skills workshops
- A network of like-minded outdoor enthusiasts
- Access to our very own climbing gym!
- Access to rent gear from our gear room.
- An online copy of the UCTMSC Annual Journal.
- Access to the development fund. As a club, we try to ensure that finances are never the reason that any of our members can't get outdoors. The development fund exists to provide anonymous financial assistance for any costs an applicant might incur on an event.
Annual Highlights
Some of the annual highlights on the calendar include the Formal, the Devil's Peak ice-cream Challenge, the Christmas Challenge, Montagu Freshers, Montagu Refreshers, Witels trips, Summer Camp, Winter Camp, Trail Running Camp along with many other day and multiday hiking, climbing, trail running and conservation trips.
