If you have represented your country in any sport at a national schools or age-group level, you could be eligible for a sports scholarship of up to R10 000.

How to Apply for the UCT Sports Scholarship

Ready to take your athletic career to the next level while pursuing academic excellence at UCT? Follow these simple steps to apply for the UCT Sports Scholarship:

  1. Check Eligibility Requirements
    Before applying, ensure that you meet the necessary criteria. UCT Sports Scholarships are open to students with proven excellence in their sport, whether at the provincial, national, or international level. You must also meet the academic requirements set by the university.

  2. Prepare Your Supporting Documents
    Gather the necessary documentation to support your application. This includes:

    • A detailed sporting CV highlighting your achievements
    • Proof of your current sporting level and competition history
    • Academic transcripts
    • Any other relevant documents such as recommendation letters or evidence of training and competition

  3. Complete the Online Application Form
    Complete the online application process to study at UCT. After you have successfully completed your academic application, Please click the link to access the Sport Scholarship Form. Be sure to provide accurate and complete information about your sporting achievements, academic background, and future goals.

  4. Submit Your Application
    Once your application form and supporting documents are ready, email them to uctsports.scholarship@vula.uct.ac.za before 30, September 2025. All submissions must be emailed in Word or PDF format only. Make sure to double-check all details before submission to ensure a smooth process.

    NB: This application is for 2026, applications for 2025 have been closed.

  5. Attend an Interview or Trial (if required)
    Depending on your sport, you may be invited for an interview or a trial to assess your potential and suitability for the scholarship. Prepare to showcase your skills and dedication to both academics and sport.

  6. Await Results
    After your application has been reviewed, you will be notified of the outcome. Successful applicants will be offered a UCT Sports Scholarship. Bursaries range from R10 000 which is deposited into the students fees account.
