The 2024 WPA Track & Field Season is in full swing with different meets happening throughout the months of February and March.

Our athletes have seized this opportunity to enhance their preparation for the much-anticipated USSA Track & Field Championships scheduled to take place at Stellenbosch University between the 4th and 6th of April.

The UCT Athletics Club coach, Daniel Parsons, said he is ready for the upcoming USSA T&F Championships at Maties. This comes after an impressive start from our Freshman, Alexander van der Walt who displayed a stunning performance at the WPA T&F Junior Championships held at Vygieskraal Athletics Stadium, Athlone, 7-9 March.

Van der Walt, who is a former student at Paarl Boys High School clinched bronze in the shot put with his dizzying throw covering a whopping distance of 13.28 metres.

Van der Walt is a competitor with great ambitions, as he mentioned that his goal this season is to increase his distance with the senior weight shot put ball as much as possible while improving his technique. His sight is set on the upcoming USSA T&F champs at Stellenbosch University where he will make his debut at a senior level.

Meanwhile, our senior athletes have set the bar high at WPA Senior T&F Championships held in Parow Athletics Stadium, between the 15th and 16th of March.

Our Decathlete, Chulumanco Peter won Bronze in the decathlon. Our sprinter, Mikateko Makaringe managed to urge his way into the men’s semi-finals in the highly contested 100m and 200m sprint events.

The countdown to the USSA T&F Championships is on!
