Four UCT men’s 400m athletes proceed to USSA Champs semi-final

The University of Cape Town track and field team had much to celebrate on day 1 of the USSA Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of the Free State at the Free State Athletics Stadium.

Four of the six 400m athletes entering the heats managed to make their way into the semi-finals, which take place on day 2.

In the first heat, Cody Tebbutt placed second behind World U20 champion Lythe Pillay in a time of 51.67. Just behind Cody was Katlego Manamela finishing third in a time of 52.17.

School record-holder over 100m and 200m Motheo Kotsedi blazed to a 48.65 time to finish first in his heat and make his 400m medal intentions clear.

The final qualifier was Munashe Jambawo who ran a strong 50.23 to seal his passage into the semi-final.

Fidel Parks and William Marketos left everything on the track but fell just short of a place in the next round.
